When to take a pregnancy test?

If you’re uncertain whether you need to take a test or if you’re unsure about the signs to watch for, you’re not alone. Here are a few of the most common signs and symptoms of early pregnancy1:

• Missed period
• Unexpected changes in your body, such as soreness, headaches, fatigue, breast sensitivity, nausea, or vomiting
• Unexplained mood changes, such as irritability, mood swings, food cravings, or aversions

Why do I need an ultrasound?

Especially if considering abortion, an ultrasound* will provide you with important information about your pregnancy and options, which includes:

Confirming the pregnancy is intra-uterine

The pregnancy is developing in the uterus. If not, it is an ectopic2 pregnancy, which is a medical emergency.

Confirming A viable pregnancy

A viable pregnancy is determined by seeing the heartbeat. If there is no heartbeat, the pregnancy could be ending in natural miscarriage3.

Determining gestational age

Our sonographers determine the age of the pregnancy based on the measurements taken.

* Ultrasound scans are used to confirm the presence of a viable, uterine pregnancy. We do not use ultrasound to determine gender or diagnose abnormalities. Eligibility criteria apply.
